If you lead IT at an independent school, you have probably been asked which cybersecurity framework the school should adopt. The question usually comes from the board or the business manager, and they already have a framework in mind. Each framework does a different job, though, and the right choice depends on the job your school needs done. This article explains what each one is for, what is changing with the Essential Eight in 2026, and how to choose.

Prior to NetStrategy, Toby led the ICT function at Swan Christian Education Association in Perth, and Oxford Falls Grammar in Sydney, as well as advising leadership and ICT teams in Independent schools throughout Australia. Anne Korte - ICT Project CoordinatorSeventh-day Adventist Schools

I began my journey in education in 2003, when Hills Adventist College was a small vibrant primary school of just 187 students. Over the years, I have had the privilege of witnessing—and helping shape—its transformation into a thriving two-campus college serving around 800 students from Prep to Year 12. Being part of the vision, planning and establishment of both campuses has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career.

In 2022, I stepped into a broader role leading project rollouts across six schools, supporting a diverse community of more than 600 staff and 3,200 students. As part of a dedicated team of 14, I work alongside school leaders and staff across the Greater Sydney region, navigating the unique opportunities and challenges of communities that span from lower socio-economic areas to Sydney’s affluent North Shore. My passion lies in bringing people together through change—ensuring that technology serves as an enabler, while relationships, trust and shared purpose remain at the heart of every project.

How we transformed recruitment and onboarding with Microsoft 365 & Cognito Forms

Recruitment at many schools still relies on spreadsheets, Word documents, and email chains. In this session we'll share how we built an end-to-end workflow using Cognito Forms, SharePoint Lists, Power Automate and Power Apps that takes a recruitment request from approval right through to onboarding, creating a streamlined and auditable process that saves time and improves visibility for leaders.

Session 3 - Journey to the Cloud at Rehoboth Christian College

Explore how  the ICT team at Rehoboth Christian College deliberately shifted from a traditional on premise environment to a predominantly cloud first model — without leaning on IaaS. Come see how the college reduced its on prem footprint from more than a dozen servers to just two VM hosts, eliminated local Active Directory, and simplified operations through service led platforms such as Microsoft Intune, Juniper/Mist and PaperCut. Attendees will gain insight into the decisions, trade offs, and practical lessons learned along the way.
